Understanding NLGI grades

How grease consistency affects pumpability, retention, leakage, and churning in hot industrial conditions.

NLGI is not a quality score

The grade describes consistency. It does not specify base-oil viscosity, load capacity, water resistance, or oxidation life.

Match consistency to delivery

Long lines and centralized systems may need softer grades, while exposed points may need stronger retention. Temperature changes pumpability and leakage.

Use the full application data

Check speed, load, temperature, base-oil viscosity, thickener, sealing, dust, water, and OEM recommendation before changing grade.
