Engineering question

How to select grease for high-temperature bearings

Choose high-temperature bearing grease by actual temperature, speed, load, base oil, thickener, and relubrication interval.

Dropping point is not the operating limit

A grease can have a high dropping point yet oxidise too quickly at the bearing temperature. Continuous suitability depends on base-oil stability, thickener, additives, and service interval.

Check the complete duty

Record stable and peak temperature, speed, load, airflow, contamination, and available maintenance frequency. High speed and high temperature can pull viscosity requirements in opposite directions.

Verify after implementation

Track bearing temperature, vibration, grease leakage, hardening, colour change, and consumption. Review quantity first if temperature rises immediately after relubrication.
